Spitfire Flights Take Off at Tatenhill Airport for the 2026 Season

Spitfire flights have officially commenced from Tatenhill Airport for the 2026 season, marking an exciting new chapter for this historic location.

On Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th April, we welcomed our very first Spitfire experience flights at Tatenhill. The weekend proved to be a great success. Drawing both thrilled passengers and enthusiastic members of the public eager to witness the iconic aircraft in action.

We first introduced Tatenhill as a new operating location back in December, offering a range of flight experiences including 30, 45, and 55-minute options. Situated just six miles west of Burton upon Trent, the airfield is steeped in history. Formerly RAF Tatenhill, it played a key role during World War II as part of Bomber Command, serving as a training base for bomber crews. Today, much of that heritage remains, including an original Bellman Hangar still in active use by Tatenhill Aviation.

Our FlyaSpitfire team arrived for a full weekend roster of experience flights, and Saturday quickly turned into a standout day. Word spread fast that the Spitfire was operating from Tatenhill, and before long, crowds began to gather. Spectators lined the fences and filled the onsite café as Spitfire MJ627 took to the skies, its unmistakable presence drawing admiration from all who watched. The airfield saw one of its busiest days in recent memory—testament to the enduring appeal of the Spitfire.

The onsite café proved to be a popular viewing point, offering hot food, drinks, and an outdoor seating area right beside the taxiway. Visitors enjoyed close-up views of the aircraft as it taxied past, along with excellent sightlines of the runway. It was the perfect setting to relax with lunch while experiencing the roar of the Merlin engine as the Spitfire powered into the sky.

One of the biggest highlights of the weekend was undoubtedly the weather. With clear skies and sunshine across both days, conditions couldn’t have been better—adding to the overall atmosphere and success of the event.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Tatenhill Aviation for their support and cooperation throughout the weekend. We’re already looking forward to returning on the 16th and 17th May for another exciting round of Spitfire experiences.
