We are pleased to announce an exciting new location for our Spitfire flight experiences. In May and June 2026, we will be operating from Cranfield Airport, offering guests the opportunity to fly in one of the world’s most iconic aircraft from a historic former RAF airfield.
Located in the rural heart of Bedfordshire, Cranfield Airport is steeped in aviation history. Officially opening on 1st June 1937, the airfield quickly became home to No. 62 and No. 82 Squadron Royal Air Force, which operated Hawker Hind biplanes. During the summer of 1940, Cranfield and the surrounding village were targeted by enemy aircraft, with mines, bombs and incendiaries dropped on the area. Throughout the Second World War, the airfield played a crucial role as a night fighter training base, welcoming No. 51 Night Fighter Operational Training Unit in 1941.
Flying a Spitfire from this historic ex-RAF location offers a truly authentic and memorable experience. Once airborne, guests will enjoy stunning views over Bedfordshire’s countryside, with rolling hills, rivers and valleys stretching below. The city of Milton Keynes can be seen over one shoulder, while Bedford lies in the opposite direction, providing a unique perspective of the region from the air.
Participants will have the opportunity to experience the famous ‘Victory Roll’ as well as the option to take the controls and feel what it’s like to fly the most iconic fighter aircraft of the Second World War, the Supermarine Spitfire. Before returning to base at Cranfield Airport.
